I heard of this place 5 yrs ago and never have a chance to come.įinally I came with my partner who is chef for more than 10 yrs and we both travelled lots in Asia before Covid. Overall definitely worth a visit, but the shellfish definitely seems to be the star here! Would definitely visit again to try more of the menu. We also weren't in a rush so it didn't bother us much. A little slow at times but there was limited staff and it was busy. It tasted nice, but didn't feel like the fish was as fresh as it could be and we were expected something "cleaner", with the fish on top etc. It tasted good, but the description on the menu said cod with mash potatoes and a tomato jus, but it was more like chunks of cod, baked in with a ratatouille-like sauce (courgettes etc) and an almost pureed potato. The cod however wasn't what we were expecting. The portion was huge and reasonably priced.
It was a little too warm inside for us, they continued to stoke the fire and add logs and we were uncomfortably warm, but I can see why they were doing this. Great atmosphere and a lovely place on a cold winter's night (wasn't winter, but it was about 9 degrees and awful rain all day). Visited here for dinner on a Saturday night in October. Overall, I would recommend and come back for a simple drink mainly and side filling food type of evening. They were busy and I can understand a certain delay but I would still expect a faster service than the one we received. Only drawback (beyond the food menu not being on the gourmet side) was the waiting time which was quite long at some point for either food or drinks. While busy, we could still hear each other and talk without having to be loud which is always a good thing in a pub!Īs often the case, there was space at the counter but we were seated at the back. Nothing extraordinary though but fine for a casual drink orientated evening. I ordered a Texas Chicken burger which was of average size and tasty enough. The drink selection is decent and the food menu too. From the location and street I wasn't expecting such a cool place tho and it is worth mentioning. Went on a Thursday evening & night and it was pretty busy. Good atmosphere and friendly staff are the toplines!
